“Apart from the design of the vehicles manufacturing institution and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), none will be allowed to change the shape of buses, trucks and covered vans . . . if it is done, no registration will be given,” said a statement of the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry Wednesday.
The ministry decided on taking stern action against the violators of the rule in a meeting on ‘Road Transport Affairs’ with state minister Mashiur Rahman Ranga in the chair.
The decision was taken as part of measures to prevent frequent road accidents and ensure road security, the statement added.
BRTA chairman Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Prof Dr Mohammad Shamsul Haque of BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology), Bangladesh Transport Owners Association secretary general Kahndker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Owners Association Mohammad Rustom Ali Khan, vice-president of Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation Rahim Box, among others, were present in the meeting.
