RAJSHAHI, Broadcasting News Corporation: Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Nojibur Rahman here Friday said Bangladesh is now role model to the word and it has been proved in many global fields.
After attending in General Assembly of United Nations, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received many awards as recognition of remarkable success. The achievements are for the whole nation, he added.
The NBR Chief made this observation while inaugurating a two-day training of trainers on NBR’s VAT Online Project at conference hall of Income Tax Commissioner as chief guest. Some 65 customs, excise and VAT officials including some others representing various business and chamber bodies are taking part in the training.
On the occasion, he also opened the Tax and the VAT Education Forum separately.
Large number of officials of the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rajshahi Zonal Income Tax Commissionerate, divisional and district administrations, chamber leaders, civil society members, professionals and businesspersons from all over the division participated.
Additional Secretary to Internal Resources Division Abdur Rouf and Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg also spoke.
NBR Members Abdur Razzaque, Parvej Iqbal, Tandra Shikder, Farid Uddin, Barrister Jahangir Hossain, Firoj Shah Alam and Rezaul Hassan, Income Tax Commissioners Dabir Uddin and Sunil Kumar Shaha and Customs, Excise and VAT Commissioner Moazzem Hossain and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md Muniruzzaman were present on the occasion.
The NBR Chairman said that Bangladesh already become a global role model for development and the successes achieved by the present movement led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were being appreciated in the international arena. “To achieve the set goals of building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041, we have to increase revenue earning,” he said and urged the concerned officials to work even better the next day than the previous day.
“The concerned officials should properly behave with the taxpayers and VAT-payers, who are the most important partners in strengthening revenue collection activities for accelerating industrialisation, economic growth and development,” he said.
Narrating the zero tolerance policy of NBR against corruption, misbehave and harassments, he cautioned all concerned of taking stern actions for such wrongdoings, if found, following the current reward and punishment system.
