He was speaking as the chief guest at a function arranged on the occasion of handing over of certificate of Lloyds Register, the oldest shipping-oriented media which ranked the Chittagong Port as 86th port in the world in terms of container handling.

Coordinator of Lloyds Register in Bangladesh Captain Zillur Rahman handed over certificates on behalf of Lloyds list to Rear Admiral Khaled Iqbal, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority for Chittagong Port Authority (CPA)’s success in 2015, at Fazlur Rahman auditorium of CPA.
The minister said that the Ctg port has been playing a vital role in the country’s economy and the incumbent government is working towards the development of this port.
As part of the move to modernize the country’s main sea port, the government has started survey to construct a new jetty at Laldia and also a bay terminal, he added.
Shahjahan Khan said that Chittagong port ranked the 86th among the busiest ports globally last year and with this landmark achievement the Chittagong port would achieve better rank this year.
The minister said the dynamism of the Chittagong port is increasing day-by-day as the Chittagong port is now ready for use as the regional port of our neighboring countries.
“We have planned to construct Laldia Terminal and bay terminal on PPP basis”, he said.
CPA Chairman Rear Admiral Khaled Iqbal delivered the welcome speech while City Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin, Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry MA Latif also spoke at the programme as special guests.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Railway A B M Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry Shamsul Hoque Chowdhuy, Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, MP, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, MP, Abu Reza Nodovi, MP among others attended the function.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the newly-built NCT gate no-3 and CFS shed of the Chittagong port.
