Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Saturday said the BNP is relying on foreign powers to go to state power.

“After losing the people’s trust and being frustrated with India, the BNP is now looking at the US elections to go to power,” he said speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of a subcommittee of Awami League national council preparation committee at a community centre at Dhanmondi in the city.

Obaidul Quader said the BNP has lost confidence in the people after failing to play the role of a real opposition party.

He said the Awami League will be stronger as a party through the forthcoming national council.

“The Awami League is a party of the common people and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina relies on the people of this country,” he added.

Presided over by AL Joint General Secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, the meeting as also addressed by AL Presidium Member Advocate Sahara Khatun, Joint General Secretary Mahbul-ul-Alam Hanif, Organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu and Dhaka North AL President AKM Rahmat Ullah, among others. AL central executive committee member Mirza Azam, MP, conducted the meeting.

Obaidul Quader said the religious fanatics are trying to come out of their hideouts.

Therefore, the AL would have to be cautious about its secret enemies ahead of the national council, he added.

The 20th national council of Bangladesh Awami League will be held on October 22-23.
