Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: On December 16, Great Victory Day, flags will be hoisted at sunrise on all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings. Additionally, large national flags may be hoisted at Bangladesh embassies and missions abroad, city corporations, and easily visible tall buildings in Dhaka city.
According to Rule 3 of the Bangladesh National Flag Rules, 1972 (amended 2010), the ‘National Flag’ shall be dark green and rectangular in shape with a length-to-width ratio of 10:6, featuring a red circle in the middle of the green field. The red circle shall have a radius equal to one-fifth of the flag’s length. The center of the circle will be the intersecting point of a vertical line drawn from the ninth-twentieth part of the flag’s length and a horizontal line drawn from the midpoint of the flag’s width.
According to the National Flag Rules, the national flag cannot be used to cover the hull, front, or rear of any vehicle, train, or vessel. If hoisted with another flag, the flag of Bangladesh must be positioned to the right of the other flag. The flagpole of the Bangladesh flag must be placed in front of the other flagpole. No other flag shall be hoisted above the flag of Bangladesh. When hoisting the flags of two or more countries, each flag must be hoisted on a separate flagpole, and the flags shall be approximately equal in size.
In cases where the flag is displayed on a wall without a pole, it must be displayed flat against the surface of the wall. When displayed in an auditorium or a meeting, the flag must be displayed behind the speaker and above them.
When displayed in the middle of a street, the flag must be displayed vertically. In a graveyard, the national flag must not be lowered or allowed to touch the ground. The flag must not be lowered toward any person or object. The flag must never be allowed to touch the floor, water, merchandise, or any other object. The flag should never be carried horizontally or flat; it must always be kept aloft and free-flowing.
The flag should not be hoisted, displayed, used, or stored in a manner that allows it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged. The flag cannot be used for receiving, holding, carrying, or distributing anything. The flag must be hoisted with due respect and lowered with honor.
Except for motor vehicles, vessels, and aircraft, the flag should remain hoisted from sunrise to sunset. However, during night-time parliamentary sessions or the oath-taking ceremonies of the President or Ministers, the flag may remain hoisted.
To display the national flag on a motor vehicle, the flagpole must be firmly attached with a clamp to the chassis or radiator cap of the vehicle. Nothing may be written or printed on the flag. The national flag of Bangladesh can be used by following these and other rules, as well as regulations amended from time to time.
