Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: The Forest Department has taken a new initiative to strengthen education, research, and conservation activities related to wildlife in the country. This program has been undertaken at the initiative of the interim government’s Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. For the first time, wildlife research grants will be provided for young researchers, university students, teachers, and researchers from the Forest Department. A total of BDT 5 million will be distributed in this sector this year.

On this occasion, a day-long workshop was organized at the Forest Department on Monday (15 December 2025 AD). A total of 46 research proposals were submitted from across the country. Of these, 22 proposals were initially selected. Today, students and researchers presented their presentations on the selected proposals.

For a long time, there has been a lack of adequate funding for wildlife research in Bangladesh. This initiative, the first of its kind, generated widespread interest and enthusiasm among students and researchers. It was announced that financial assistance will be provided based on the quality of the research proposal, the national and international importance of the research, and the experience of the researcher.

Present at the day-long event were Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Zahidul Kabir, Conservator of Forests for the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Unit Md. Sanaullah Patwari, and prominent wildlife researcher and expert Dr. Mohammad Ali Reza Khan. Expert teachers on wildlife from various universities participated in the workshop.
