Barishal, Broadcasting News Corporation: Under the theme ‘Trust in technology and compassion, welfare and equality in social service today,’ a discussion meeting on self-reflection was held in Barishal on the occasion of National Social Service Day 2026, similar to the celebrations across the country. On Saturday (January 3, 2026), organized by the Department of Social Services and volunteer social welfare organizations of Barishal, the discussion meeting took place at the Rupatoli District Social Service Complex in the city.
Md. Sohrab Hossain, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue), was the chief guest at the meeting.
In his speech at the discussion meeting, the chief guest said that the most important aspect of self-reflection is self-realization. The first condition for cleansing oneself is to critically examine one’s own actions. If we want to achieve personal growth and excellence, deep self-reflection is indispensable.
It is also essential to cultivate a culture of self-reflection in government offices. This will ensure the transparency and accountability of institutions as well as the sustainable development of the country.
He said that the Social Services Department has supported the disadvantaged and marginalized communities of society with deep love and compassion. Currently, this department has established itself as a reliable haven for serving the helpless and those in humanitarian need. The marginalized people at the grassroots level in the Barishal division are directly benefiting from the department’s various social service initiatives, setting a unique example for overall social development.
Addressing the capable members of society, he said that instead of waiting with the hope of social service, if they stand by street children and the underprivileged from their respective positions, the country will be filled with love and compassion.
In an open discussion, speakers said that street children need to be integrated into normal and socially-based mainstream lifestyles. In addition to ensuring access to education, they must be provided with safety in life. It is extremely important to arrange birth registration for street children and orphans. Consequently, they can become educated and apply for various jobs.
