Kutubdia, Broadcasting News Corporation: The Bangladesh Navy regularly conducts patrol operations in the Bay of Bengal to ensure the security of the country’s maritime borders and establish good governance at sea. During a routine patrol on Friday (January 30, 2026), near Kutubdia, the Navy ship ‘Banuja Surma’ received an urgent telegraphic message around 6:00 AM reporting that a fishing boat was adrift in the sea with an engine failure. Upon receiving the information, the Bangladesh Navy ship ‘Surma’ proceeded to the scene to carry out the rescue. The boat, which was adrift near Kutubdia, was swiftly rescued along with 20 fishermen on board. The rescued fishermen were provided with initial medical treatment and necessary food supplies.

The boat’s crew informed that they had set out from Chittagong on January 19, 2026, to go fishing in the sea. Later, in the early morning around 4:00 AM on January 28, 2026, 10–12 criminals, wielding homemade weapons from another boat, confronted the fishing boat.
