Law Adviser Inaugurates E-Bail Bond in 8 Districts

Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: With the aim of modernizing the justice system and alleviating the difficulties faced by justice-seeking citizens, Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, has inaugurated the e-bail bond service simultaneously in 8 districts in the second phase. On Wednesday (January 21, 2026), he inaugurated the service virtually from the ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat. This service has been launched in the districts of Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalokathi, and Sherpur. Previously, the e-bail bond service was launched in Narayanganj district. As the program is running successfully in Narayanganj, the service has now been expanded to 8 more districts. He expressed hope that gradually the e-bail bond service will be launched in all 64 districts of the country. With the introduction of the e-bail bond, a prisoner can be released very quickly. By submitting a bail bond online, an accused can be released within an hour.

At the inauguration ceremony, Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul stated that previously, multiple steps had to be completed to obtain bail, which consumed both time and money and caused hardship. In many cases, it used to take anywhere from a few hours to several days. With the process going online, a complete record of who signed and when will be maintained. As a result, there will be no opportunity to deliberately delay this process. In response to a journalist’s question, the advisor said that after successfully launching it in Narayanganj district, the service will now be rolled out in eight more districts, so there is no reason for it to stop. We still have some time, and within this period, we will try to launch this service in a few more districts. We hope that e-bail bonds will be available in all 64 districts of the country within the next six months.

When asked whether the next government will continue the e-bail bond system, he said that it is an essential service. We do not believe that any future government will hinder this system. The initiative to introduce e-bail bonds digitally has been taken to modernize the judicial system and reduce the hardship for people seeking justice, replacing the traditional method of submitting bail bonds. The advisor expressed that this groundbreaking step would help save time and expenses for litigants, prison administration, lawyers, and all concerned parties.

At the secretariat end of this virtual event, the Secretary of the Law and Justice Division, Liaquat Ali Molla, Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Mohammad Motahar Hossain, Additional Secretaries of the Law and Justice Division S.M. Ershadul Alam and Md. Khademul Qayes, Joint Secretaries Ruhul Amin and M.A. Awal, along with senior officials of the Law and Justice Division, were present. At the other end, Acting Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rauf, judicial officers from eight relevant districts, lawyers, police, and officials of the Department of Prisons attended.
