Ashraful Islam, Special Correspondent, Chapainawabganj, Broadcasting News Corporation: As part of a humanitarian initiative, relatives residing in India got the opportunity to see the body of a deceased woman at the Shibganj border in Chapainawabganj. This touching event was arranged on Saturday (January 24, 2026) at 12:45 pm near Border Pillar 180/10-S in the responsible area of Azmatpur BOP, with the presence of BGB and BSF personnel along the zero line of the border.
The deceased was Rezia Begum (75), wife of the late Setab Uddin from Rifujipara village in Shibganj Upazila. She passed away at her home on Saturday morning at 8:30 due to age-related reasons.
To get a glimpse of the late Rezia Begum’s body, her cousin, Md. Sobahan, a resident of Shoshani village under Kaliachak police station in Malda district, India, applied to the BSF. Following his request, after discussions between the BGB and BSF, arrangements were made to show the deceased at the border.
The authenticity of the incident was confirmed by Lt. Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of the Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB).
