Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Md. Anwar Hossain, has called on the younger generation to step forward in practicing and researching science. He said, ‘It is impossible to survive globalization in the 21st century without widespread use of knowledge, science, and technology.’

On Saturday (January 17, 2026), at the award ceremony of the ’15th National Science Olympiad 2026′ organized by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in the Curzon Hall auditorium of Dhaka University, the Secretary made these remarks in his speech as the chief guest.

The Secretary said that the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences organizes the Science Olympiad every year to encourage young people in science-oriented and science education, which is truly commendable. In this regard, the Ministry of Science and Technology will continue its support. The government regularly works on the development and promotion of science and technology and on creating scientific awareness among students.
The event, chaired by Professor Dr. Z.N. Tahmida Begum, Vice President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, the convener of the National Science Olympiad 2026, Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, and the secretary of the Olympiad, Professor Dr. Iyarul Kabir.

It is noteworthy that this Olympiad is organized with the aim of nurturing science-minded students across the country. Initially selected from various regions of the country, a total of 548 students from eight different divisions took part at the national level this year. Students who achieved merit were awarded honors and prizes. It was announced that such initiatives will continue to further encourage the younger generation in scientific practice and research.
