We are trying to improve the quality of primary education based on our capacity

Khagrachhari, Broadcasting News Corporation: Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said that the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education cannot solve all problems overnight, even if it wants to. However, based on the capacity we have, we are trying to see how the quality of primary education can be improved. Establishing residential schools can be a good solution in areas of remoteness and poverty.

There are various problems regarding children’s education in the hilly regions. One aspect of this is poverty. Due to poverty, children are unable to study properly. Often, parents are also not interested in sending their children to school because of poverty. Another issue is remoteness. Due to the difficulties in communication systems, teachers and students face various challenges. Another important aspect is language education.
On Sunday (January 18, 2026), the Advisor said these things in his speech as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled ‘The Role of Education-Related Stakeholders in Improving the Quality of Primary Education,’ organized by the Directorate of Primary Education at the town hall in Khagrachhari Hill District.

Before delivering his speech, the Advisor spoke with headteachers of government primary schools in remote areas of Khagrachhari Hill District and Rangamati District and listened in detail to the various problems and challenges they face in their work.

Addressing the headteachers present at the discussion meeting, the Advisor said that the main purpose of our primary education is to provide opportunities to nurture the latent talents in children. This development must be both mental and physical. In addition to the children’s studies, we must remain vigilant in fostering their moral development and sense of social responsibility.

The discussion meeting, presided over by Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, featured a welcome speech by the Administrator of Khagrachhari Hill District, Md. Anowar.
