Murshid, advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, said that the ‘Ashar alo’ educational institution is not just an educational institution; it is a shining example of hope, humanity, and building an inclusive society. She said, ‘I believe this school will play a crucial role in developing the latent talents of children with special needs. It will nurture them as confident, self-reliant, and dignified citizens, setting an example for all other educational institutions.’ She made these remarks on Sunday (January 4, 2026) during the inaugural ceremony of the construction of Light of Hope, a specialized school run by the Bangladesh Navy under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Welfare in Khilkhet, Dhaka. At the event, Admiral M. Nazmul Hasan, Chief of the Bangladesh Navy, spoke as a special guest, presided over by Nadia Sultana, President of the Bangladesh Navy Family Welfare Association.Social Welfare Advisor Sharmeen S. Murshid said that every child has the inherent right to grow up healthy, safe, and beautifully. The potential and future leadership lie hidden within children. In our society, some children are born with special talents and abilities, while others are born with special needs. Children with special needs are in no way outside society; they are an integral part of it. Like all normal children, children with special needs also have equal rights to education, services, and opportunities. It is our collective responsibility to create a suitable environment, show empathetic attitudes, and provide effective education for them. She expressed great joy and pride at being able to attend the inauguration ceremony of the construction work of ‘Ashar Alo Dhaka,’ which is being built for the welfare of children with special needs. The advisor mentioned that for your information, under the supervision of the National Disabled Development Foundation, a total of 11 schools have been opened in Dhaka and 6 divisional cities.
\nIn these schools, children affected by autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders are provided education in literacy, numeracy, music, sports, general knowledge, communication, social behavior modification, and rehabilitation. Alongside government initiatives, specialized schools are being run by various NGOs or organizations across the country to ensure the right to education for children with special needs. In order to provide education and services, a total of 103 special service and assistance centers have been established in 64 districts and 39 sub-districts nationwide, especially in remote areas. These centers offer free special education and services, counseling, and supportive materials to people with special needs, including autism, from remote regions of the country. He further stated that the Ashar Alo in Dhaka will provide specialized education for children with special needs, an autism support program, speech therapy, occupational therapy, parent counseling, and vocational training to promote children\u2019s self-reliance. All these activities will be open to children with special needs, including those from the armed forces. The school, located in the Khilkhet area adjacent to Purba Chala, will fulfill the long-standing demand for a quality specialized school for children with special needs.<\/p>\n
As an advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, he said, ‘I am very happy and delighted to be a partner of Asha’s Alo School. The current government has prioritized welfare activities for children with special needs. I again pledge to provide all kinds of support for such a noble initiative. I hope that in the future, the government will continue to extend all kinds of support in the development and management of Asha’s Alo School in Dhaka. Alongside government initiatives, the support of renowned personalities established in society will also continue,’ he expressed this optimism.<\/p>\n
