Broadcasting News Corporation : Rudy Giuliani \u200barrived at an Atlanta courthouse Wednesday to testify before a special grand jury investigating whether former President Donald Trump and his allies illegally tried to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. Giuliani, who was informed earlier this week that he is a \u201ctarget\u201d of the criminal probe, emerged from a limousine with his lawyer Bob Costello by his side as photographers jostled to capture a photo of the former New York mayor as he climbed the steps of the Fulton County Courthouse. \u200bThe 78-year-old has said he will not discuss his testimony. Costello wouldn\u2019t say whether Giuliani would invoke \u200bhis Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during his appearance and would not respond to questions about whether he would discuss Trump. \u201cIf you think he\u2019s going to talk to you about conversations he had with his client, you\u2019re delusional,\u201d Costello told CNN. Everything \u201cdepends on the questions they ask,\u201d the lawyer added. G\u200biuliani has emerged as the highest-profile member of Trump\u2019s inner circle to become ensnared in the investigation that was launched in March 2021 by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and has also named 17 other people as targets. \u200bS\u200ben. Lindsey Graham was ordered by a federal judge on Monday to testify before the grand jury, rejecting the South Carolina Republican\u2019s claims that his call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was intended to gather facts about the legitimacy of the vote in the Peach State. \u200b
\nGraham intends to appeal the ruling.\u200b Willis opened the probe after audio of Trump\u2019s call with Raffensperger on Jan. 2, 2021, revealed that the then-president pressed the state\u2019s top election official to illegally count votes that would allow him to defeat former Vice President Joe Biden in Georgia. \u200b \u201cAll I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have,\u201d Trump told him. \u201cBecause we won the state.\u201d
\nRaffensperger rejected the president\u2019s request.\u200b Giuliani was ordered to appear in person last week after being excused from appearing before the grand jury on the same day. The former mayor was unable to fly after undergoing surgery to have two heart stents installed last month in New York. \u200bThe judge said unless Giuliani\u2019s lawyers could provide a compelling reason why their client couldn\u2019t travel to Georgia, he must appear to testify. \u200bWillis, in court documents, said Giuliani served as a lead attorney for the Trump campaign and in that capacity appeared before the Georgia state Senate in December 2020 to present \u201cevidence purporting\u201d to show election fraud in the state.
