There were reports that former President Donald Trump was struggling to recruit top-notch attorneys in the wake of the FBI\u2019s Aug. 8 search of Mar-a-Lago.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

WASHINGTON, Broadcasting news corporation : Former President Donald Trump has hired a top Florida lawyer to lead his defense in the FBI raid case, a person familiar with the decision told The Post Tuesday.
\nChris Kise, a former solicitor general in the state, is joining Trump\u2019s legal team amid claims the 45th president was struggling to recruit top-notch attorneys in the wake of the FBI\u2019s Aug. 8 search of Mar-a-Lago.
\nKise, a veteran GOP lawyer, starts immediately and will represent Trump at the next hearing in the Southern District of Florida on Thursday. Until recently, the Tallahassee attorney had been a partner at the Foley & Lardner law firm, but he has since \u201cwithdrawn,\u201d a firm spokesperson told The Post. It wasn\u2019t immediately clear when Kise handed in his notice. He started negotiating with Trump\u2019s team soon after the FBI executed its search warrant on Trump\u2019s palatial Florida home, sources told NBC News. Kise previously worked on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis\u2019 transition team and had publicly released damaging information about Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum in the waning days of the 2018 gubernatorial race. The lawyer exposed text messages that showed Gillum had quietly accepted free \u201cHamilton\u201d tickets from an undercover FBI agent in violation of Florida\u2019s ethics laws. He has won four cases before the US Supreme Court and several others in the Florida Supreme Court. Trump fundraiser Brian Ballard, who is friends with Kise, said the lawyer has the type of broad experience that Trump needs. \u201cHe\u2019s no shrinking violet,\u201d Ballard told Reuters. Kise will represent Trump alongside his previously hired attorneys, Jim Trusty and Evan Corcoran. The ex-commander-in-chief had lashed out earlier this month following reports, including one from the Washington Post, that he was struggling to hire lawyers to take his case against the Justice Department. \u201cThe WAPO story that \u2018Trump is scrambling to add seasoned lawyers\u2019 to the Mar-a-Lago Raid case is, as usual, FAKE NEWS. I already have excellent and experienced lawyers \u2013 am very happy with them,\u201d Trump raged in an Aug. 18 post on his Truth Social site. His attorneys are due back in court Thursday amid Trump\u2019s request to appoint a special master \u2014 an independent third party \u2014 to review items seized during the FBI raid to see if any are potentially subject to attorney-client privilege. The Justice Department agreed on Monday to comply with a judge\u2019s request to provide, under seal, a more detailed list of the items seized from Trump\u2019s home. Federal prosecutors said in the latest court filing that a review team had uncovered \u201ca limited set of materials\u201d that could be subject to privilege.
