Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Under the overall supervision of the Armed Forces Division (AFD), the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of Japan signed an agreement on the transfer of defense equipment and technology at the Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday (February 3, 2026). The agreement was signed on behalf of Bangladesh by Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hasan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, and on behalf of Japan by His Excellency Saida Shinichi, the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh. Through this agreement, the strategic partnership and long-term friendship between the two countries have reached new heights.
According to sources in the Armed Forces Division, the signing of this agreement became possible as a result of the intensive and continuous efforts of both parties since 2023. This defense agreement reflects the deep mutual trust, coordinated vision, and cooperation between the two countries, which was made possible through the farsighted and effective diplomacy of the interim government of Bangladesh. This agreement is expected to further accelerate the process of defense modernization in Bangladesh. The agreement has been executed in full compliance with the principles of the United Nations Charter, which will establish an institutional framework for acquiring advanced technology and defense equipment and for joint research and development to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security as well as the protection of Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. At the same time, the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Japan in South Asia will deepen, making a significant contribution to regional stability and global security. With the signing of this historic agreement, the exchange of military experts between the two countries is expected to increase, playing a crucial role in enhancing Bangladesh’s defense capabilities and implementing future action plans. It is also believed that it will play a special role in strengthening strategic relations and military cooperation between the two countries.
