Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Steps have been taken to eliminate the shortage of quality jute seeds this season. As a result, there will be no shortage of seeds, said Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.
He shared this information during a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association in his office at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (January 4, 2026). On behalf of jute exporters, it was informed to the Advisor that due to the export of raw jute, many people have started hoarding illegally, which is destabilizing the market. As a result, jute prices are constantly rising. This is not benefiting the farmers; rather, the hoarders are profiting, creating disorder in the jute market. They stated that if illegal hoarding is not stopped, both genuine jute farmers and everyone involved in the jute trade will suffer.Above all, from an economic perspective, the country will suffer losses. The leaders called for swift action to stop hoarding at this time.
The advisor assured that the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy to prevent illegal jute hoarding. Very soon, legal measures will be taken in four districts with high jute production to prevent hoarding. Bilkis Jahan Remi, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Tapas Pramanik, President of Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association, Vice Chairman Faruq Hossain, Board Director Mohammad Shahjahan, and Helal Ahmed were present at the meeting.
