Ashis Chowdhury, Special Correspondent, Broadcasting News Corporation: An important meeting was held between Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and the country’s top business leaders.

The meeting took place on Sunday (January 4, 2026) at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

During the meeting, when the businessmen demanded freedom from political harassment and various forms of extortion, Tarique Rahman issued a stern warning.

He stated clearly that if anyone gets involved in any irregularities or extortion using the name of the BNP, immediate and strict organizational action will be taken against them.

Tarique Rahman assured the businessmen that if the BNP comes to power through the people’s vote, a healthy and safe business environment will be ensured in the country.

He said that business opportunities would be provided not for the interests of any specific group or family, but for the sake of the country’s economic prosperity.

He sought the advice and cooperation of the businessmen to overcome the country’s current economic crisis and reaffirmed his commitment to economic reforms based on the BNP’s announced ’31-point’ outline.

The BNP Acting Chairman promised to prioritize the private sector for creating employment for the youth and establishing new industries and factories.

During the meeting, the overall situation of the country in view of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election (February 12, 2026) was highlighted. The businessmen emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the country.
