Former Finance Minister Muhith was the pioneer of environmental movement in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation : Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin said, eminent economist, distinguished diplomat, language fighter, brave freedom fighter former finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit was a pioneer of environmental movement in Bangladesh. He was the founding president of BAPA, an organization for the environmental movement. Before this he was also the founder president of an environmentalist group called ‘Parash’. If everyone is environmentally conscious like him, the overall environment of the country will improve. The minister said that he has also made many important contributions in the field of sports. Muhit Saheb, a multi-talented freedom awardee, was a true legend of the country. The environment minister said these things while addressing the special guest at the unveiling and commemoration of the “Kingbadanti Abul Mal Abdul Muhit” memorial book at Diploma Engineering Institute, Kakrail, Dhaka on Friday afternoon. The minister said, this accomplished son of Sylhet, who has been serving as the finance minister for a long time, has made Bangladesh stand on a solid economic base with his timely and prudent action plans and decisions. This gifted son of the country with versatile talent has made a very important and memorable contribution to the socio-economic development, public service and democracy of Bangladesh in his long and illustrious career. He was the first diplomat of Pakistan’s Washington embassy to declare his loyalty to the Bangladesh government during the war of independence. Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was present as the chief guest in the event. Prominent economist Kazi Khalikuzzaman Ahmad presided over the occasion. Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen, Planning Minister MA Mannan, National Professor and Mr. Muhith’s sister Dr. Shahla Khatun, Medical Research Council Chairman Professor Dr. Syed Modachir Ali, former Chairman of Privatization Commission Inam Ahmed Chowdhury and media personality Mr. Shaikh Siraj spoke as the special guests.
