Govt. to conduct research projects to address issues in the environmental health sectors

Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said the Government aims to conduct research projects to address the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance, a growing global health concern, by integrating efforts across human, animal, and environmental health sectors. He said international collaboration is highly required for tackling complex environmental and public health challenges. Environment Minister said this while a delegation led by Professor Dr. Kozo Watanabe of Ehime University, Japan met him at the ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The main agenda of the meeting was the proposal of a collaborative project titled ‘One Health Approach to Controlling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Ensuring Safe Aquaculture and Livestock Production.’ This initiative falls under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS). Saber Chowdhury expressed his appreciation for Japan’s continued support and interest in Bangladesh’s sustainable development. He asked the delegation to send a brief of benefits of action, and cost of inaction of this research project.
Professor Watanabe highlighted the potential benefits of the project and strengthened scientific and technological ties between Bangladesh and Japan. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their commitment to advancing this collaborative effort, recognizing its potential to make significant contributions to sustainable development and health security in Bangladesh. Later, the Environment Minister held a meeting with a delegation led by the President of Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Zaved Akhtar in the Ministry’s office room at the Bangladesh Secretariat. T.I.M. Nurul Kadir, Executive Director, FICCI, Dhaka and Shamima Akhter, FICCI were also present on the occasion.
