Ashis Chowdhury, Special Correspondent, Broadcasting News Corporation: Nazrul Islam Khan, a member of the National Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Convener of the Election Management Committee, stated that although fascism has fallen, the people’s desired democracy has not yet been fully restored.

This goal can only be achieved by forming an elected government through the exercise of the people’s right to vote.
Under the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the party will move forward on the path of democracy, peace, and development, upholding the ideals and political philosophy of Khaleda Zia.

He made these remarks on Sunday (January 4, 2026) during a press conference of the BNP’s Election Management Committee at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

During the event, he further mentioned that the first official meeting of the 41-member Central Election Management Committee, formed ahead of the upcoming elections, was held this afternoon at the Gulshan office.

He urged the Election Commission to play a neutral role for the sake of a free and fair election.
It is noteworthy that on January 1, 2026, the BNP’s Election Management Committee was formed with Nazrul Islam Khan as the Chairman and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as the Member Secretary.
