Ashis Chowdhury, Special Correspondent, Broadcasting News Corporation: On Saturday afternoon (January 10, 2026), the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, met with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman in a courtesy call and meeting at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, various matters of mutual interest, and the future roadmap of friendship between the two countries. This was the first meeting with the Indian High Commissioner since Tarique Rahman officially assumed the responsibilities of BNP Chairman.

During the visit, views were also exchanged regarding the current political situation of the country and the upcoming election (February 12, 2026).

On behalf of the BNP, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, and Joint Secretary General for International Affairs Humayun Kabir were also present at the meeting.
