Feni, Broadcasting News Corporation: Dr. Shafiqul Rahman, the respected Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said that the long-standing sorrow and demand of the people of Feni— a dam will be constructed on the Feni River. If Allah grants us the opportunity, we know that there are some issues with our neighboring country regarding this matter. We respect them and hope they will respect us too, and through fruitful dialogue with them, we will find a peaceful solution, InshaAllah. On Friday (January 30, 2026) at 9:30 a.m., at the Feni Government Pilot High School field, speaking as the chief guest at the 11-party electoral alliance public rally, Ameer of Jamaat Dr. Shafiqul Rahman made these remarks. He further said, we received a 36 July, and that’s why everyone could come here. Before 36 July, we could not even imagine such a scene. The entire country was filled with splattered blood and bodies on bones. On October 28, 2006, they started their murder spree – the Pilkhana massacre, the killing of the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the killing of BNP leaders, the killing of the clerics, the killing of journalists, the killing of the members of the civil society.
“People of Feni, you were more in the state of terror and in the midst of hereditary terrorism. It is not found in any other district. Yet you continued to protest. He didn’t care about the red glasses of the terrorists. You and your children took to the streets. They have been protesting throughout July. He returned home with the results on August 5. Here in Mahipal, 12 of our comrades were martyred. I pay my deepest respects to them. I pray to the Almighty Allah to accept them as honorable martyrs.
I am remembering with more deep respect the people of my fatherland Feni, former Prime Minister and former BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. He is a champion of the country’s independence and sovereignty He did not support authoritarianism. On this point, we thank and congratulate him from the bottom of our hearts. I am remembering with deep respect Mr. Makbul Ahmed, our honorable teacher for many of you, who served as the central Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami during its most difficult and troubled times. May Almighty Allah shower boundless mercy and peace upon his soul. Amen. Respected people of Feni, you have many problems. I had the chance to witness a couple of them firsthand. Just after the revolution on July 36, probably around August 12, the dike was broken by a surge of water coming from across the border, turning the entire Feni district into a sea. Adjacent areas in Noakhali, Laxmipur, and part of Comilla were also affected. On the very first day, we took the risk and came there. Vehicles could not move. We wanted to come quickly by helicopter, but due to the weather, the helicopter authorities said that flying was not possible in these conditions. We were told not to come because there was no way to reach Feni. In places, the water was knee-deep, waist-deep in others. I said—Is anyone moving? How are they moving? It was said—they are breaking the water at the waist. I said—I will also break the water at the waist. And I tried to stand beside you.
That day, I only saw your sorrow and misfortune, and seeing that pain, I shed a few tears. Those few drops of tears merged with the floodwaters. I did not come to end all your sorrow and misfortune. I came to be a companion and witness to your grief.
Later, when the conditions were favorable, I came to see the place where the dam had broken. A tiny place—but it is a matter of dignity, it is a matter of our safety.
Today, I remember Abrar Fahad, a distinguished student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He had to give his life to speak two words about this Feni River. People of Feni, I leave Abrar Fahad’s soul with you. As long as Feni exists in this world, I request—you make a little space for Abrar Fahad in your hearts, in your soul. He spoke for you, he spoke for the rightful entitlements of the country. For this, the agents of supremacy and brokers could not tolerate him.
I pray at the court of the Great Lord—O Allah, grant Abrar Fahad the status of a true martyr.Ameen. Open a window of your beloved paradise next to his grave. Let the graves of 12 more martyrs be flooded with your heavenly light. Ameen. Grant peace to the hearts of all their loved ones.
Respected brothers,
An overpass is needed at Lalpul here. This is not a big demand. There used to be a private medical college in Feni—later it was closed. We have announced that in a country of 180 million people, no district among the 64 districts will be deprived of a medical college, InshaAllah. This will be a government medical college.
Alongside this, specialized hospitals will be gradually established in each district headquarters, InshaAllah.
Feni does not have a quality stadium. Feni is a prosperous district. Remittances sent by expatriates play an important role in Bangladesh’s economy. This stadium will be transformed into an international standard sports venue, InshaAllah.
There are many more such issues—we will resolve all of them based on fairness, InshaAllah.
