On Tuesday (December 30, 2025), our entire nation stands in deep grief and sorrow. The top leader of the country’s democratic politics, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, is no longer with us. Innalillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

We are deeply saddened and anguished by the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia. With her death, the nation has lost a great guardian.

At this moment of profound sorrow, on behalf of the entire nation, I extend my sincere condolences to her family members, political colleagues, and countless supporters.

My prayer to Almighty Allah is that He grants us all the strength to overcome this deep grief.
Begum Khaleda Zia was a highly illustrious personality in the politics of Bangladesh. Her extraordinary role in the struggle for democracy, a multi-party political culture, and the establishment of people’s rights will remain indelibly recorded in history. Her uncompromising leadership against autocracy and fascism repeatedly showed the nation a way out of undemocratic situations and inspired liberation.

The nation’s people will always remember her brilliant contributions to the country and the nation with respect. Her long political journey, people-oriented leadership, and unwavering efforts to uphold the independence and sovereignty of her beloved homeland will remain unforgettable. The void left by such a great, visionary, and truly patriotic leader cannot be filled.

At this sorrowful moment, I extend my heartfelt appeal to all of you—let us all, from our respective positions, pray to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia.
At the same time, during this difficult period for the nation, let us remain united. I urge everyone to be vigilant so that no one can attempt instability or sabotage in this time of mourning. It is extremely important for all of us to play a responsible role during this period.
Dear fellow citizens,
On the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, I have declared a three-day state mourning and a one-day public holiday tomorrow on the day of her funeral prayer.
I earnestly appeal to everyone to maintain discipline in performing all types of mourning, including the funeral prayer.
Dear fellow countrymen,
I know that all of you are deeply emotional at this time. I hope that during this period of mourning, you will show patience and cooperate with everyone involved in carrying out all the formalities, including the funeral.
May Almighty Allah grant us all the patience, strength, and ability to remain united.
