Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor for Shipping and Labor & Employment, has instructed the formation of a three-member investigation committee regarding allegations of environmental destruction due to indiscriminate hill cutting for land filling at Ramgarh Land Port in Khagrachhari. The investigation committee has also been directed to complete an on-site investigation within the next three working days and submit a detailed report.

The Advisor said that the government gives utmost importance to any matter related to the country’s environment, natural balance, and national interest. If activities like hill cutting or illegal land filling occur, the actual culprits will be identified and legal action will be taken.

It is noted that upon the publication of a report in the daily newspaper ‘Amar Desh’ regarding this matter, the Advisor instructed to verify the truth of the allegations, uncover the actual events, and take strict legal action against the guilty individuals.
Sakhawat Hossain further stated that the land port constructed in Ramgarh, Khagrachhari during the previous government had already been reviewed in terms of its importance to Bangladesh’s geo-economic perspective. A special committee of experts was formed to reassess the potential gains and losses for Bangladesh from this land port project. Based on the report of the expert committee, the relevant authorities have been instructed to take subsequent measures.
