WASHINGTON, Broadcasting news corporation : Dan Goldman, the former federal prosecutor and Trump impeachment lawyer, called his primary victory in New York’s 17th District Tuesday a “rebuke of Trump” — after the former president gave him a tongue-in-cheek endorsement. The Levi Strauss & Co. heir defeated several progressive opponents in the crowded redrawn district, including current Rep. Mondaire Jones, City Council member Carlina Rivera and Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou. “Tonight, though, is not a victory for myself, or any one person. It is a victory for all of us, all of us who will not let authoritarian forces undermine the foundation of our democracy and the rule of law,” Goldman said at a campaign party. “It is a rebuke of Donald Trump. He tried and failed again to meddle in an election,” the Democrat added, referencing the former commander-in-chief’s pseudo-endorsement. In the days leading up to the election, Trump “endorsed” the former assistant US attorney in a backhanded statement on his Truth Social platform. “Lawyer Dan Goldman is running for Congress, NY-10, and it is my great honor to Strongly Endorse him,” Trump wrote. “I do this not because of the fact that he headed up the Impeachment Committee and lost, but because he was honorable, fair, and highly intelligent. While it was my honor to beat him, and beat him badly, Dan Goldman has a wonderful future ahead.” The 45th president also teased that Goldman — who was endorsed by the New York Times — would help Republicans.
“He will be very compassionate and compromising to those within the Republican Party, and will do everything possible to make sure they have a fair chance at winning against the Radical Left Democrats, who he knows are destroying our Country,” Trump wrote. “I would like to thank Dan for fighting so hard for America, and for working so tirelessly to stop ‘Trump.’ He was not easy to beat, but winning against him made me realize just how very talented I am!” he added.
