Chattogram, Broadcasting News Corporation: The Advisor for Health and Family Welfare, Nurjahan Begum, has called upon doctors to prioritize ensuring the highest quality healthcare for the public by keeping government hospitals and healthcare centers above party politics. She stated, “A hospital is not a place for parties or politics. It is a place for treatment, discussion, and problem-solving. Regardless of which party’s ideology you adhere to, your job is to provide proper service.
The Health Advisor made these remarks as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting regarding ongoing development activities and future plans, held on Friday (12 December 2025) in the conference room of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
During the meeting, Nurjahan Begum said that importance must be given to preventing all types of diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and stroke. “We are currently lagging behind the SDG targets. We have fallen behind in the area of family planning control. The birth rate has increased from 2 to nearly 2.4. Both infant mortality and maternal mortality rates have risen. Therefore, if we are negligent in disease prevention, even if the entirety of Chattogram or the country is turned into a hospital, there will be no improvement in the health sector. Thus, along with treatment, we all must emphasize disease prevention.
