Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Water Resources, and Information and Broadcasting, stated that the Jamuna is one of the major rivers of Bangladesh, playing a crucial role in the country’s geomorphology. Extensive plans for sustainable river training and flood control must be adopted in the management of the Jamuna River.
She made these remarks while addressing a seminar as the chief guest titled “Nodi Project Concluding Seminar On Pathways to Sustainable Management Of the Jamuna River” at Pani Bhaban in Panthapath, Dhaka, on Wednesday (December 17, 2025).
The Adviser mentioned that the size, shape, and characteristics of the river, along with the developed biodiversity and essential elements of livelihoods, must remain unchanged in the management and training of the Jamuna River. She emphasized the importance of taking necessary initiatives to ensure an adequate supply of water for Boro cultivation and to reduce salinity.
The Adviser further added that Japan has been a tested friend of Bangladesh since independence. She thanked Japan and its people for their economic and infrastructural development assistance to Bangladesh and expressed hope for continued cooperation.
The seminar, chaired by the Director General of the Water Development Board, Md. Enayet Ullah, was also attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi; Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Khondaker Azim Ahmed; Additional Secretary of the Planning Commission, Md. Enamul Haque; and others.
