Sylhet, Broadcasting News Corporation: With the aim of expanding border trade and promoting regional economic development, Bholaganj Land Port in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet district has been inaugurated by Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Labour and Employment. On Thursday (December 25, 2025), he officially inaugurated Bholaganj Land Port as the 24th land port of the country under the Bangladesh Land Ports Authority initiative, with financial support from the World Bank under the Ministry of Shipping.
During the inauguration, the Shipping Advisor stated that the opening of Bholaganj Land Port will not only expand trade and commerce in the border areas but also open new doors for employment creation and economic development. This port will further energize the economic activities of the Sylhet region and play an important role in strengthening bilateral trade with neighboring countries.
He said that the Bholaganj land port is not just a center for commercial activities but will also elevate the communication system and economic activities of the entire region to a new level. He expressed hope that the opening of the Bholaganj land port will improve the living standards of the people in this region, inject new momentum into trade and business, and bring about a positive and sustainable change in the national economy.
Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, in her speech, said that necessary infrastructure, manpower, and technical facilities would be gradually provided to transform the Bholaganj land port into a modern, efficient, and business-friendly commercial hub. This land port will serve as an important link for regional and international trade expansion. After the inauguration, the Shipping Advisor inspected various facilities and infrastructure of the Bholaganj land port and provided necessary guidance to the concerned officials.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Bangladesh Land Port Authority, Mohammad Manjarul Mannan, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam, and other concerned officials.
