Launching of LCTs Built with the Navy’s Own Technology

Khulna, Broadcasting News Corporation: With the aim of modernizing the Navy and enhancing the three-dimensional capability of the naval fleet, Khulna Shipyard Limited, under the supervision of the Navy, has undertaken the construction of 03 Landing Craft Tanks (LCTs). In line with this, on Thursday (15 January 2026), the honorable Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M. Nazmul Hasan inaugurated the launching ceremony of LCT-101, built at Khulna Shipyard using the Navy’s own capabilities. At the time, various senior military and civilian officials and related personnel were present.

These ships play a significant role in coastal areas during joint amphibious operations by the Army and Navy, transporting tanks, artillery, and APCs along with heavy equipment. In peacetime, they are crucial for disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and rescue operations.

In response to this need, the LCTs are being constructed at Khulna Shipyard with the Navy’s own capabilities and with technical support from Canada’s Vard Marine design. Each LCT can carry 6 tanks or 12 APCs.
These ships will be considered significant examples of enhancing the operational capability of the Navy as well as the country’s defense industry and technological advancement.
