Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been renamed as the Special Intervention Force (SIF), according to Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.).

The advisor mentioned this name change to reporters during a briefing after the core committee meeting on law and order at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (February 3, 2026).
The advisor said that regarding the restructuring of RAB, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of the chief advisor’s special assistant on defense and national cohesion development, Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz (Retd.). The committee recommended changing RAB’s name to ‘Special Intervention Force (SIF)’, which has been approved by the chief advisor of the caretaker government. He said that a notification regarding this will be issued very soon. Once the notification is issued, this force will begin working with new enthusiasm and energy. At the same time, the uniform of the force will also be changed.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that an ‘Electoral Management Exercise’ has been arranged today at the Tetuljhura College polling station in Tetuljhura Union, Savar Upazila, Dhaka District, with the participation of election officials and members of various law enforcement agencies. The advisor mentioned that through this exercise, the public would be able to learn about the role and capability of law enforcement agencies during the elections. During the briefing, Brigadier General Md. Ali Haider Siddique, Director General (Operations and Planning) of the Armed Forces Division, spoke about the looted and illegal weapons recovered, stating that since the Election Commission announced the election schedule, the armed forces have been able to recover 199 weapons and 1,972 rounds of ammunition and arrest 1,807 individuals. He also stated that under the ‘In Aid to Civil Power’ initiative, 106,223 members of the armed forces have been deployed across the country.
