Dhaka, Broadcasting News Corporation: Sharmeen S. Murshid, advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, stated that the government wants to develop the Agricultural Institution as a model for the development of agricultural society. She said that agriculturalists from all levels and relevant stakeholders need to work together to advance the management and development of this institution.
The advisor made these remarks while delivering the keynote speech as the chief guest at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare at the boardroom of the Agricultural Institution Bangladesh in Farmgate, Dhaka, on Saturday (07 February 2026), highlighting the achievements in management, reform, and administration of the Agricultural Institution Bangladesh.
The press conference was attended by the administrator of the Agricultural Institution, Lt. Colonel (Retd.) Md. Abdur Rab Khan, former Secretary of Agriculture Anwarun Nabi Majumdar Bablu, along with other representatives from the Department of Social Services.
The advisor stated that after August 5, due to lack of oversight, a chaotic situation arose regarding the control of the concerned institution. To free KIB from the long-standing mismanagement, corruption, and nepotism, and to develop it into a competent and representative professional organization, a skilled administrator was appointed. Subsequently, under the guidance of the advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, extensive reform activities were initiated. In this continuum, on January 4, an ‘Interim Advisory Committee’ was formed with the participation of all stakeholders, which has injected new momentum into the institution’s operations.
Sharmin S. Murshid said, I believe that the participatory model currently being followed, if continued, will enable KIB to meet the expectations of all farmers in the future. This model will serve as a safeguard in any future crisis and will set a commendable example for other professional organizations in Bangladesh.
